Discovering Hong Kong

The Wonders of Hong Kong are Waiting

Exploring Hong Kong—its vibrant neighborhoods, sizzling cuisine, and serious luxury offerings—is one of life’s great pleasures in travel. Start your visit with a grand overview by taking the newly refurbished Peak Tram. The funicular rises sharply to Victoria Peak. Look closely, and you’ll notice buildings passed on the route that leans at a slight gradient, too.

Another must is a breezy, easy ride across Victoria Harbor on the historic Star Ferry where visitors take in city views on charming wooden passenger ferries that run between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

With any luck, your Hong Kong visit coincides with the city’s twice-monthly blowout fireworks shows, which light up the night and the skyline spectacularly. Make sure to stop for dim sum once you’ve worked up an appetite and snack on barbecue pork and rice (a local favorite) with sweet pineapple buns to finish.

Man Mo Temple | Legacy House Dim Sum, Rosewood Hong Kong

Shop for antique gems or fun curios at Hong Kong’s famous Cat Street market (officially called Upper Lascar Row) but better shopping is found on Hollywood Road, near the waterfront. And while you’re dipping in and out of the shops and galleries, don’t forget to look for the eye-popping street art murals above.

Once you’ve reached Man Mo Temple, built in the late 1800s as a tribute to the God of Literature, drop in for a moment. Stand under dozens of giant hanging incense coils and experience a moment of golden peace in a busy city.

High Tea at the Peninsula | Ozone Bar at the Ritz-Carlton

Ready for a break? Stop at the see-and-be-seen Peninsula Hotel for the grandest of colonial holdovers: high tea. This refreshing ritual has been on the menu since 1929, and no one does it better.

You’ll need to regroup before the sun sets – exploring Hong Kong’s legendary nightlife is serious business. If you’re looking for something unique, consider drinks at Ozone at the Ritz Carlton, the world’s highest bar at 1608ft on the 118th floor. The views are unbeatable, and so are the bragging rights.

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most interesting cities – explore it today.
